Students within Lancaster Bible College’s Music, Worship & Performing Arts Department will present a trio of free concerts this fall. The community is invited to attend, and seats may be reserved at no charge at lbc.edu/events.

First, the Fall Choral Concert at 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at The Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Market St. in downtown Lancaster, will focus on the theme of “All Things New.” Featuring the LBC Chorale and Chamber Singers under the guidance of Dr. Robert Bigley, Director of Choral Studies, and the Men’s Chorus led by Dr. Jeffrey Martin, Director of Vocal Studies, students will offer music selections from the Italian Renaissance to contemporary America.

Then at 3 p.m. Nov. 3, the Fall String Orchestra Concert will feature the talents of LBC students and their mentors. Set for Good Shepherd Chapel on LBC’s campus, 901 Eden Road, the performance will highlight a semester spent praising the Lord through song and sharing God-given musical gifts.

“There are so many amazing new students immersing themselves in the opportunity to play beside our mentors and seasoned community members for this glorious program of works by living composers Kirk Mosier, Jan Van der Roost, Zachary Fried and Karl Jenkins,” said conductor and Director of Instrumental Studies Doris Hall-Gulati.

The concert will also include a movement from seasoned composer Frank Bridge and his “Suite for Strings,” written in 1910, a dance performance about Judas’ betrayal of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane along with a series of Israeli folk dances, as well as a composition featuring oboist Rachel Sidebothom, Interim Chair of the LBC Music, Worship & Performing Arts Department. Concluding the program will be a very recognizable, Baroque-inspired theme that should bring a smile to many faces.

To complete the fall concert lineup, the Fall Wind & Percussion Ensemble Concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 in Good Shepherd Chapel will feature students performing six fantastic works by living composers or arrangers while surrounded by community musicians ranging in age from 15 to 85.

“This has been an amazing three months of giving and receiving by and from all involved,” said Hall-Gulati, who will conduct the ensembles. “We begin the program by praising our Lord with an arrangement of the chorale prelude ‘Beautiful Savior’ and continue with works from composers Brian Balmages, Samuel Hazo, JaRod Hall, Gustav Holst and Frank Ticheli. The program will conclude with a rousing arrangement of John Philip Sousa’s ‘Power and Glory.’”
