Preparing for Life After College: Insights from LBC’s Experts

by Lilly Rutkowski (’25)

As graduation approaches, many students may be asking, “What’s next?” To help answer this question, the Student Government Association (SGA), the Business Administration Department and the Career Services at Lancaster Bible College collaborated to host a “Life After College” event to kick off spring. The panel featured Mark Denton (’21 & ’27) from Career Services and Shannon Sensenig (’25) on behalf of the Student Business Collective, who both shared valuable insights on transitioning into the professional world.

During the event, students gained practical advice on these key topics:

  • Finding a Good Job – How to search effectively, tailor resumes and stand out in interviews
  • Managing Finances – Budgeting, saving and making wise financial decisions after college
  • Networking – The importance of building professional relationships and utilizing connections

Students also had the opportunity to ask questions during a dedicated Q&A session, some of which included the following:

  • How do I research benefits packages for future jobs?
  • How can I trust in God, pray and be in communication with the Lord when it comes to my career and future?
  • Where and how do I find a financial advisor? (Hint: access to professionals is free at most banks)
  • What fonts or colors should be used in resumes?
  • Is it acceptable to use AI to help create a resume?

Stepping into the “real world” after college can be overwhelming, but SGA recognizes the importance of equipping students with the right tools and connections. LBC takes seriously the mission to educate Christian’s students to think and live a biblical worldview and to proclaim Christ by serving Him in the Church and society. To do this, it’s important to not only educate in the classroom but also to prepare students for life outside the classroom as well. Therefore, the aim of the event was to help LBC students feel more confident about life after graduation as they utilize the resources available at LBC.

For LBC students who missed the event or simply want to gain practical insight on life in general, LBC’s Career Services is an excellent resource.
