To kick off the second half of the 90th anniversary year of celebration, Lancaster Bible College welcomed a new friend to campus—Bolt, the Charger Mascot!
An imposing presence of a gray stallion, complete with a black mane emblazoned with a lightning bolt, plenty of muscles, red and black high-tops and, of course, a Chargers jersey, Bolt arrived on campus on a very special day—Jan. 30, 2024, which was the 90th academic day of LBC’s 90th years.
Bolt first stampeded onto the basketball court that evening during halftime of the men’s game against St. Mary’s College, which ended in an electric 100-95 comeback win. Bolt helped out with special 90th anniversary giveaways and took photos with fans in the Red Sea student section. But did Bolt then gallop off into the sunset? Neigh! He grazed long enough that night to take in some of the women’s game as well, as that Charger squad topped the Seahawks in overtime.
Since the exciting Charger wins, Bolt has been seen at various locations around campus, including getting a warm welcome from LBC President Dr. Tommy Kiedis, visiting the trough by ordering a beverage at Hollee’s Café, pulling his weight by hitting the gym, quelling his “I-could-eat-a-horse-sized” appetite by downing some chicken patty sandwiches at Olewine Dining Commons, combing his tail for class, receiving acting pointers from Musical Theatre Director Stephen Atherholt and much more.
So stop stalling, and check out all the mane events of Bolt’s first week on campus:
But, no horsing around, the journey to welcome Bolt to campus has been in the works for many years. Besides creating camaraderie with students, athletes and fans, Bolt’s presence also seeks to support the LBC Athletics Department mission “to pursue excellence through athletics and cultivate Christ-centered relationships that impact others.”
Be sure to giddy up and get hitched to all the exciting things Bolt has planned this semester. Follow LBC social media accounts on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook to see how Bolt is spending his time on campus.
