Hundreds of students are preparing for an exciting season of graduation and celebration, from various phases along their educational journeys. Among them are Adult Education students at LBC | Capital, many of whom balance full-time jobs, families and serving with their studies—both on-campus and online.
One of these Adult Education graduates, Angela Lesher (’21), does double-duty at LBC | Capital. She is an employee of the college where she serves as Assistant Director of Financial Aid and has worked to finish her business degree online at LBC since 2017.
Meet Angela, who balanced school, a full-time job and responsibilities as a wife and mother to two children—all while maintaining a 3.92 GPA.
LBC | CAPITAL: Why was LBC | Capital’s Adult Education program a good fit for you?
ANGELA LESHER: After having my daughter, I started going to a community college. However, when I got pregnant with my son, I knew I needed to focus on motherhood. Over time, I felt that it was finally the time to finish the degree I had started years prior. When I started looking into programs, I knew that I wanted something that was completely online and accredited. Originally, I was looking for an associate degree program in order to finish quickly. However, when I came across the bachelor’s online degree program at LBC, I knew it was a perfect fit. LBC | Capital offered a business degree that I desired and all the classes were online. The classes were designed for adults who are working full-time. Plus, the teaching had a solid biblical base, which I fell in love with. Now that I have finished the program, I can see how much I was able to implement within the work that I do right now. Since I work within the business world, I was able to take the lessons that I learned and apply them to my daily work. Also, I was able to research and write papers about issues that I was seeing within my work experience, while remaining rooted with a biblical mindset.
LBC: Tell us what you plan to do with your Business Administration degree in the future.
AL: This is a great question. In the immediate, I will continue to work for LBC. I have been blessed to be able to share my own experiences with students because of my online experience. Also, I love working here! In the future, I am not sure what I will do. However, I hope that God will continue to use the knowledge and the foundation I got at LBC to continue to help me move forward with whatever he calls for my life.
LBC: Now that you’re ready to graduate, what was your favorite aspect of studying at LBC | Capital?
AL: My favorite aspect of studying at LBC was the Christian worldview. I had never had a Christian education, but having all my classes rooted in biblical truth fed my spirit. There were times within my educational experience when I was going through heavy personal issues and the last thing I wanted to do was my classwork. However, God used those moments to stretch and grow my faith. This is the beauty of a Christian education! It cultivates not only your mind but your soul, too.
