Where I Teach: Online/Lancaster
Courses Taught: Writing for Publication, Writing for News Media, Writing on Social Issues, Interpersonal Communication, Freelance Writing, Grant Writing Essentials, Practices and Principles
My Education: BA in Broadcasting from Evangel University; MA in Communication from Regent University; PhD student in Leadership at Alvernia University
My Occupational Background: On LinkedIn, I describe myself as a storyteller and strategist (content, proposals, communication, social media) for businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Something People May Not Know About Me: I have over two decades of experience with writing content for businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits and publications. The majority of my work is completed as a contracted freelance writer. My published bylines and ghostwritten work have appeared locally and nationally in newspapers, magazines, email newsletters, internal and external organizational documents, websites and social media outlets. I have successfully worked with local, national and international teams on content with my work also translated for international publications and websites. I’ve been able to learn about such fascinating people, places and organizations as I have worked on content from researching, interviewing, writing and editing! I have researched, written and managed proposals for local and national nonprofits with funding of approximately $3 million to date received from these efforts as well as aided with organizational strategies and goals. I also use my communication insight and knowledge in customer-facing interactions with and on behalf of my clients, including strategy and conflict resolution. I also don’t use the Oxford comma unless required by a client or writing project, and I always welcome a conversation on this controversial topic. Since my parents owned motorcycles before starting a family, my siblings and I were raised around motorcycles and that culture until my teenage years. I carried this love for motorcycles into my graduate studies through what started as an assignment and then resulted in presentations at Regent University (1998) and the 1998 Popular Culture Association in the South & American Culture Association in the South conference. “Riding for the Son: An Analysis of a Text Used by the Christian Motorcyclists Association” still remains one of my favorites! A few other tidbits: My college minor was French, I was raised in the Upper Midwest, and my experiences have been intertwined since childhood within a second-generation family business until it sold in 2018.
The Best Thing About Teaching at LBC | Capital Is: While I love sharing my insights and experiences (both the amazing and the rough) with my students, I find the students inspire me to be a better person, professional, Christian and professor.
