Committed to Discipleship Worldwide

Throughout Haiti and the United States, David (’76) and Ginger (’75) Muchmore have dedicated their lives to discipling and bringing God’s Word to others. And a stop along their journey happened at Lancaster Bible College.

Both of their parents worked with the Unevangelized Field Mission, or “Crossworld” as it is now known. Thus, both Ginger and David were active on the mission field throughout their lives.

Growing up in Haiti, Ginger’s heart remained there. “I went to nurse’s training to go back,” she said. “I was always planning to go back.” She attended LBC to strengthen her biblical knowledge but also to fulfill Crossworld’s required 30 hours of Bible learning. LBC’s Concentrated Bible Certificate program filled both needs.

Serving with his missionary parents, David grew up in Congo and also attended LBC’s Concentrated Bible Certificate program. “Ginger finished up her nursing and came to LBC in my junior year.” During this time on campus, the future husband and wife got to know each other better.

After receiving his certificate, David enrolled in LBC’s bachelor’s degree program for Bible Ministry in 1972, graduating four years later. He then recognized that God was calling him to discipleship while also working with his hands. “I figured, if I am going to be spending a lifetime investing God’s truth into the lives of people, I’d better get to know them pretty well.” When he finished at LBC, David moved on to graduate school at Dallas Theological Seminary to major in Christian Education.

David and Ginger married in 1979 and, two years later, departed for Haiti. While there, Ginger served the local hospitals while David worked in discipleship and education. Their years in Haiti blessed countless lives and impacted many.

However, eventually the time came to return to the U.S., and this move upended their lives more than the Muchmores expected. Ginger in particular ached for Haiti. “I cried,” she said, remembering their departure. Meanwhile, David continued his work back in the States and looked to where the Lord was calling him next. “The mission asked me to consider taking over the leadership for our staff in Asia,” he said. “The idea of doing new things, creative things, is what I enjoy.”

Some years later, both Crossworld and David realized that mantle of leadership was larger than just one person could manage, so David turned over that role to a group of talented leaders whom he had mentored. Today, still active in missions in training and awareness roles, the Muchmores are two of nearly 100 Global Partners at Calvary Church in Lancaster.

David explained that discipleship is what every Christian is called to do—regardless of where, geographically, they are called. For example, one of David’s Haitian mentors encouraged him to focus on discipleship to make a real difference. “We can do a lot of things, but if we’re not investing in people, as we say in a Creole context, it’s like washing your hands and drying them in the dirt.”
