At any given Philadelphia Phillies game, Jacob Stong III (’22) can be found in the opposing team’s clubhouse, where he fulfills his duties as a Visiting Clubhouse Attendant for the organization.

The LBC Sport Management grad is responsible for seeing to the needs of the visiting team, including unloading and prepping equipment, providing hospitality—such as laundry, cleaning cleats, stocking coolers and fridges—and setting up and tearing down the bullpen and dugout before and after each game.

“Working for the Philadelphia Phillies in any capacity opens the door to seeing my goal of being an equipment manager become reality,” Jacob said.

While a student-athlete at LBC, Jacob served as the president of the Sport Management Student Association his senior year. In addition to playing baseball for the Chargers, he worked for the Athletic Department as the basketball team game manager.

“Taking care of the other teams my senior year of college is pretty much what I do as my job with the Phillies,” Jacob explained. “Having that field experience in the Athletic Department has helped me the most.”

Another invaluable experience for Jacob was an internship with the Reading Fightin Phils—the Phillies’ Double-A affiliate. Not only did Jacob solidify himself within the organization, but he also made connections that helped him land his current gig.

After two years of persistent communication with connections he made within the Phillies organization, Jacob was offered the job at Citizens Bank Park, where he hopes to be a “light in the darkness.” He recalled an interaction with a former St. Louis Cardinals player where Jacob asked him about a Bible verse that was engraved on his glove.

“I want to be a strong witness for the Lord and an encouragement to athletes who already profess their faith.”
