Living Legacy | The Brussel Family

Traditions of multiple family members attending or being connected to LBC are commonplace in the college’s 90-year history. Among those with shared family ties is the Brussel family. Originally from the Netherlands, the Brussels began their move to the eastern United States in 2014 when Joshua (’18 & ‘21) enrolled as a freshman at LBC. The Pastoral Ministry and Master of Arts in Ministry graduate taught middle school Bible for three years at Mount Calvary Christian School before transitioning to church ministry. Today, he serves as the Middle School Director at Calvary Church and is pursuing his Master of Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary.

In the summer of 2015, the rest of the family—including Joshua’s parents, Mark and Gina, as well as his younger brother, Caleb (’19), and sister, Hannah (’25)—followed in his footsteps by moving to the U.S. to serve a church in Massachusetts.

Hannah, an LBC junior in the Early Childhood Education program, serves as a Resident Assistant in Peterson Hall as well as on the worship team at Grace Church at Willow Valley.

Also a Pastoral Ministry graduate, Caleb is the Assistant Pastor at Grace Church at Willow Valley and is working toward his Master of Divinity from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He and his fiancée, Beth, will be married in February 2024.

Stephanie (Ehko ’20) and Joshua met at LBC, began dating just two weeks before his graduation and were married in 2020. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, she taught second grade for two years at Mount Calvary Christian School before returning to her alma mater to work in the Admissions Office, where she currently serves as a Global Admissions Counselor. Joshua and Stephanie’s daughter, Sara Grace, turned 1 in February 2024, and they welcomed their second baby in May 2024.

The parents or in-laws of four LBC students, Mark and Gina live in Middletown, Pa., where Mark serves as the senior pastor at Garden Chapel. They’ve enjoyed watching their family benefit from biblical education at LBC.

“We were persuaded that our children would benefit greatly from a quality Bible education and solid Christ-centered friendships, and believed that LBC would provide a good context for learning and growing,” Mark said. “The school’s emphases on knowing and living God’s Word have played a significant role in shaping their hearts and minds for Jesus.”

As a family, the Brussels enjoy soccer—both playing and watching—playing music and enjoying a good meal together.
