Looking toward springtime, Lancaster Bible College’s Music, Worship & Performing Arts Department is preparing for a busy concert season. All four performances are free and open to the public; tickets may be reserved at lbc.edu/events.
First, on March 30, the LBC Wind and Percussion Ensembles will perform at 3 p.m. in Good Shepherd Chapel on LBC’s campus at 901 Eden Road in Lancaster. The groups will present an eclectic program including two marches to be conducted by a pair of LBC Music Education juniors: Nicholas McVaugh of Reading, Pa., and Brooke Weiss of Perkasie, Pa. From William Schuman’s “When Jesus Wept” to movie music from 1972’s “The Cowboys” by John Williams, all will be sure to enjoy this exciting repertoire. The Wind Ensemble’s membership has doubled over the past year, blessed with both talented students and community mentors who volunteer their time to apprentice students.
On April 6, a joint String Orchestra Concert and Opera Workshop will kick off at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall of The Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Market St. in downtown Lancaster. The afternoon will include a performance of excerpts from George Frideric Handel’s “Alcina” after an all-string first half of various movie themes — both old and new. Students enrolled in LBC’s Opera Workshop course will sing arias and ensemble numbers in the florid Baroque style, accompanied by the String Orchestra as well as a harpsichord.
Also planned for this spring is the Senior Musical Theatre Showcase at 7 p.m. April 12 at Good Shepherd Chapel. As they near graduation in May, senior Musical Theatre majors showcase the skills and talents they’ve developed during their time at Lancaster Bible College. Performing students include Paris Black of Ephrata, Pa., Sydney Hersch of Berlin, Pa., Allyson Hunsicker of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Elsa Rogers of Columbia, Pa.
Lastly, on April 13, the Spring Choral Concert is set for 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike in Lancaster. For this afternoon performance, the LBC Chorale, Chamber Singers, Men’s Chorus and other ensembles will focus on the sounds of spring.
In 1912, the Lancaster Trust Company finished its new headquarters—a Beaux Arts masterpiece from the imagination of Lancaster’s leading architect, C. Emlen Urban. A century later, Lancaster Bible College reimagined it into The Trust Performing Arts Center—a stunning venue for arts and culture in the heart of Lancaster. The Trust has a mission to honor God by encouraging excellence in the work of student and professional artists and by enriching the community through inspiring, challenging and redemptive experiences.
LBC’s Music, Worship & Performing Arts (MWPA) Department exists to prepare highly skilled artists to influence our culture with grace and truth. Students hone their craft in a community of dedicated artist-teacher mentors and passionate peers. Our caring, student-centered environment nurtures the mind, soul and heart of each person with a view to promote creative competency and Christ-like character. Real-world, practical experience prepares students to engage professionally on many levels; in a touring ensemble, on stage as an actor, singer, instrumentalist or dancer; studying privately with a world-class artist-teacher; or preparing for a professional vocational journey in Performance, Worship Arts, Musical Theatre, Music Education and Composition. Lancaster Bible College is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Learn more at lbc.edu/mwpa.
