Steps to Apply for an Online Doctoral Program

To be eligible for admission into an LBC doctoral program, applicants must hold an accredited master’s degree in a relevant field. Admission is competitive, with cohort sizes ranging from 12 to 18 students. Candidates are evaluated based on academic performance, examination results, personal characteristics, and aptitude.

All doctoral programs begin in the fall term (August). The application deadline is August 1 for U.S. students and May 1 for international students.

SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPTS

Please submit your official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended. Transcripts should be sent to LBC directly from the degree-granting institution(s) via email to admissions@lbc.edu or mailed (in a sealed envelope) to: Admissions, Lancaster Bible College, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.


THIRD STEP – Submitting Additional Documents

Request professional reference(s). Applicants must provide contact information for professional reference.

3 references for PhD in Biblical Studies and Leadership
2 references for DMin
1 reference for EdD

Written submission.

  • Applicants to PhD or DMin
    Submit research paper. All applicants must submit a 15-page, research paper written at the master’s level (a previously written paper is acceptable).
  • Applicants to EdD
    1. Submit a current resume or CV.
    2. Submit statement of purpose.
    All applicants must submit a 750- to 1000-word statement of purpose that outlines your leadership experience, current role in education, and purpose for pursuing an EdD in Educational Leadership.

FINAL STEP – Personal Interview

Upon completion of your admission portfolio, you will be considered for an admission interview to be scheduled by our staff or program director. The interview may be in person or by video conference.

Program Specific Requirements for Admission

Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements

  • PhD applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
  • DMin applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in previous MDiv degree or a 3.2 GPA in an accredited ministry-related or Bible/Theology master’s degree.
  • EdD applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Additional requirements for applicants

  • DMin applicants who do not hold an MDiv degree must complete additional admission requirements such as an appeal letter and ministry experience. Details will be provided upon application.
  • Additional application pieces might be requested by the Program Director, if necessary.

International Applicants, please note:

  • LBC is excited to offer international students the opportunity to earn their doctoral degrees from their home country through our online programs. With reliable internet access, we can bring our courses to you. The PhD programs require an in-person residency two weeks of the year in Lancaster, PA and the DMin and EdD require weekly synchronous Zoom sessions. If you are seeking to study in the United States for their LBC doctoral degree please contact the admissions office.
  • An English Language Proficiency Exam is required. Our instruction and coursework for all our degrees are in English, therefore an English language proficiency exam (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo) will be required for any non-citizen international applicant to demonstrate a satisfactory level of English proficiency.
    • Make sure to add LBC’s school code: 2388.
